Creating the Perfect Granola Bar

Looking for a snack that's easy, healthy, and delicious? Look no further than the humble granola bar. They're portable, they're tasty, and (if you do it right) they're extremely nutritious. 


Like any food, getting the most out of your granola bar comes down to what's in it. That's where many of the bars you'll find at the grocery store fall short. Conventional granola bars tend to be filled with sugar and low quality ingredients. It's time to skip all that and go straight for the good stuff - like beets.


Our Sweet Beet Granola Bars


Beets in granola bars? Yes, you heard us right. Use this recipe to combine your preferred nuts, seeds, and add-ins with the nutrition of beets. Trust us - it'll breathe new life into your daily snack.


Sweet Beet Granola Bar Recipe


Ingredients:


¼ cup beet powder

1 ¾ cup quick oats

1/2 cup chopped nuts

2 tbsp ground flax or chia seeds

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½  tsp salt

¼ cup nut butter of choice

¼ cup liquid sweetener of choice (honey, maple syrup, agave)

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ cup milk of choice

⅓ Cup Add-Ins


Instructions


  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Prepare an 8x8 baking sheet by spraying it with cooking spray.

  1. In a large bowl, combine the beet powder, oats, nuts, flax or chia, cinnamon, and salt.

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the nut butter, sweetener, vanilla, and milk. If stirring is difficult, heat the ingredients on low heat until they melt together into a liquid.

  1. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ones, mixing as you go. 

  1. Add half of your add-ins to the bowl, mixing until just combined.

  1. Press the mixture into the baking pan in an even layer. Press your additional add-ins into the top.

  1. Bake for 18-20 minutes.

  1. Let your bars cool completely before cutting. 


About Those Add-Ins


The nice thing about this granola bar is there's plenty of room for customization. Here are a few of our favorites:


  • Chocolate Cherry Almond: Use slivered or sliced almonds as your nut, or almond butter as your nut butter. Add in dried cherries and cacao nibs before baking.
  • Tropical: Use a dried fruit medley as your add-in. For extra flavor, sprinkle unsweetened coconut on top.
  • Cranberry White Chocolate: Use dried cranberries and mini white chocolate chips as your add-ins.
  • Pretzel Mix: Chop up pretzels into bite sized pieces. Press into the top of your granola bars. Top with cacao nibs and nuts.
